Jean Tinoco named 2021 Orange Beach Surf Rescue Lifeguard of the Year

After a vote by his peers on the Orange Beach Surf Rescue squad, Jean Tinoco was named the 2021 Lifeguard of the Year.

Orange Beach Fire Department Beach Safety Division Chief Brett Lesinger presented the award to Tinoco at the close of the summer season. The glass award was created by artist Kerry Park of the Hot Shop at the Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach.

It was another busy season for Surf Rescue. 

From March 1, 2021 to September 30, 2021, here are the stats:  

  • Minor First Aids: 55
  • Major First Aids: 29
  • Public Contacts: 189,381
  • Public Assists: 90
  • Preventative Actions: 99,912
  • Missing Persons: 49
  • Water Rescues: 197
  • Boat Incidents: 8
  • Stings: 86
  • Code Enforcements: 27,919

Lifeguard presence will remain on the beach until October 29, 2021 and after that date patrols will be limited until March 2022.
