1. Children under 14 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian regardless of swimming ability.
2. All persons must take a cleansing shower before entering pool. Please rinse hair if you plan on swimming underwater.
(Note: Showers are required by the Alabama State Department of Health.)
3. Clean swimsuits must be worn. No cutoffs allowed (Loose strings can clog filters).
4. Persons with the following conditions are not allowed in the pool: Infectious or communicable diseases, diarrhea, skin diseases, open lesions, bandaged wounds or open cuts, blisters, or inflamed eyes.
5. Direct in water adult supervision is required for all non-swimmers under the age of 14, Non swimmers over the age of 14 must wear a wristband provided by the aquatics center to designate non-swimmer status. "Non-swimmer" is defined as a person who is unable to make forward progress in the water unassisted. Aquatics center personnel are authorized to determine and designate “non-swimmer” status. If parents question swimming ability, the child may perform the Red Cross Water Competency Skills Test to be removed from a non-swimmer status. Non-swimmers must remain in the shallow end of the pool.
6. Privately owned lifejackets brought from home must be inspected by the lifeguard for proper fit and have a US Coast Guard approved stamp for use in the pool.
7. Use of a Coast Guard Approved life jacket does not alter non-swimmer status and the rules applicable thereto. All persons wearing life jackets will be deemed non-swimmers and must remain in the shallow end of the pool.
8. We do not allow water wings or inflatable devices for non-swimmers. The reason is simple: If they inflate, they can also deflate.
9. A person requiring the use of a diaper must ensure that it is specifically designed for in-water purposes. (Disposable diapers will explode and clog the pool filter).
10. Running or rough play is prohibited in the pool area.
11. Swimmers may not get on the backs or shoulders of other swimmers.
12. Throwing swimmers is prohibited.
13. Derogatory language, gestures, and inappropriate displays of affection are not allowed.
14. The following are prohibited in the pool area: Chewing gum, food, beverages (with the exception of water in a plastic bottle), or glass containers.
15. Drugs, alcohol, tobacco, electronic cigarettes, and all other smoking devices are prohibited.
16. Kickboards, rafts, or inflatable devices are not allowed during open swim times.
17. Direct parent or guardian supervision is always required in the kiddie pool area.
Diving Board and Slide
18. Make sure the area below the slide and diving board is clear before sliding or jumping.
19. Guests using the diving board must jump to the front of the board.
20. Everyone must slide on their backs, feet first.
21. Only one person on the slide at any time.
22. Wait for the previous person to reach the side of the pool before sliding or jumping.
23. Non-swimmers or children wearing life jackets are not allowed to use diving board or slide.
The Lifeguard has the authority to make a rule interpretation and he or she must be obeyed. Failure to follow the rules stated herein or other rules/direction of lifeguards may result in ejection from the Aquatics Center.
