News release:

Orange Beach streamlining and expediting application processing with OpenGov

OpenGov homepage for City of Orange Beach

As of Dec. 5, 2025, the City of Orange Beach has launched a new online portal for business licenses and other applications with OpenGov Permitting & Licensing

In an effort to streamline the licensing and application process, the Orange Beach Finance Department is introducing the new OpenGov software as a first step to increase the efficiency of city operations and convenience for residents and business owners. The volume of business license applications the department receives exceeds 13,000 annually, and continues to grow.

This digital upgrade will significantly streamline the entire submission and approval process, resulting in a notably faster turnaround time for applicants to receive their official operating licenses. The goal of this initiative was to reduce administrative friction, enhance user experience, and support the prompt establishment and operation of new and existing businesses within the community.

For renewals in 2026, all business license holders will need to create an account through the OpenGov portal. Find instructions on how to create an account on the Orange Beach OpenGov portal resources page.

“I’m proud that Orange Beach continues to invest in our community and IT infrastructure to make living and doing business here as comfortable as possible. Our goal is to make the business license application more efficient for our customers.” said Ford Handley, Orange Beach City Administrator/Finance Director. “With our new online portal, powered by OpenGov, I’m thrilled to share that we’ll be able to process and approve applications much faster, which will lead to ongoing improvements for our City.”

Orange Beach joins more than 1,900 public sector organizations leveraging OpenGov to revolutionize work processes with cloud-based software designed specifically for the needs of government.
